Building Trusted AI for Real Workflows

The value of AI tools does not come from novelty alone. It comes from whether they reduce friction, handle real constraints, and earn trust in day-to-day use.

A lot of AI products still optimise for the demo.

The demo matters, but it is not the product. Real workflows come with messy inputs, constraints, accountability, edge cases, and people who need to understand what the system is doing well enough to rely on it.

That changes the design brief.

Once you start building for real work, trust becomes a product requirement rather than a brand aspiration. You have to think about visibility, reversibility, control, failure modes, review, and how the tool behaves under pressure. You have to design for the moments where confidence drops, not just the moments where the output looks impressive.

This is where I find practical AI most interesting. Not as spectacle, but as infrastructure for judgment, momentum, and better workflows. The goal is not to make the system look magical. The goal is to make it useful, legible, and dependable enough that people will keep using it after the novelty wears off.

That usually means less theatre and more systems thinking. Better boundaries. Better operating models. Better product decisions around where AI helps, where it should stay out of the way, and how its output is integrated into the rest of the experience.

That is the kind of AI work I want to keep building.
